Intimately Carried Away by the Divine Love

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 2:8-9

My beloved is like a gazelle

or a young stag.

Behold, there he stands

behind our wall,

gazing through the windows,

looking through the lattice.

Song of Solomon 2:9

A heart that has been awakened to the wonders of God in the Beloved, is a heart that is totally consumed by the Lover-Redeemer, Christ. All the affections are set on Him, all the attention allotted to Him, the vision permanently fixed upon Him, the heart and mind carried away by any form of His beauties, showcased or manifested in His own ways. This is the sure case or situation of those who are truly and deeply in love with the Beloved – Christ. This must be repeatedly stated because this is the reality that every person who claims to be in love with the Beloved must truly aim. Shouldn’t our aim be to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength? We must also keep in mind that we cannot give to the Lover-Redeemer our hearts with us keeping our bodies to ourselves! It’s either we are all for Him [the Beloved], or nothing for Him! If such is the case, being all for Him, then we must have the taste of what it really means to be in His divine love! That His steadfast love is better than life, so our lips will always praise Him! To be totally in love with the Beloved, is to constantly experience being carried away by His divine love!

As the poem/dialogue between the Beloved [Christ] and the maiden [Church] continues, here is another glimpse of the picture of our relationship with the Lover-Redeemer, Christ Jesus. Here, the maiden again moved to another scene in her daydream for the Beloved (carried away by the Divine love); “The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills” (v.8). Now she imagines a visit from her Beloved with the sense of she, awakened with an excitement by the sound of the Beloved’s voice; “My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, there he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows, looking through the lattice.” (v.9). Again, the maiden continues her daydreaming of her Beloved, hastily coming to meet her, full of energy from the excitement and passion to see her, as if he [Beloved] were a gazelle or young stag!

In the given vision of what our relationship looks like with our Lord Jesus Christ, we must find ourselves exactly the same with the maiden, as she portrays the picture of the Church. We see that she is intimately carried away by the Divine love of the Beloved, that she daydreams the visit of Him. Such is the case of a real believer! We long for the coming of Christ! We yearn for Him with deep passion, to behold Him completely! To see His love in every turn in our lives, that we may always be led by the Spirit to a greater comprehending of who He is, and His heart for us – where we truly belong! We are to be alerted and awakened by His voice, for we know that He has said “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”.

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want to know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him, the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. Are you still passionate about the Lord Jesus Christ?

2. Is your heart totally consumed with the desire of being with Christ all the time?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

The greatest passion one can have is the passion for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray

Father, I come before You, in Your infinite welcoming love for us in Your Son, Christ Jesus, to ask boldly of our unseen need – Your residing presence in the person of Your Son. Please awaken our hearts continuously to the beauties of Your Son, that we may learn to automatically cherish Him as most. Make us see that He is all that we need, and He is all that we have. Make us so passionate about Him, and His coming, that we are excited to be fulfilled by Him forever. This we pray, in His Name. Amen.
