Godly Discernment

Scripture Text: Proverbs 3:21-23

My son, do not lose sight of these—

keep sound wisdom and discretion,

Proverbs 3:21

Have you experienced to be a judge in a contest? Did you practice biases when you knew someone who is a participant in that contest? Next time, when you have an opportunity to be a judge, make sure you judge fairly and use sound judgment and discerning, because it is your honor to recognize sound judgment.

I remember King Solomon, he wanted to have discerning heart to govern the great people of God. To accomplish his duties as a king. Solomon received a wise and discerning heart because the Lord was pleased to him. One day, there was a concern about two prostitutes who came and stood before him. These two women have their own babies to nurse. The two of them lived in the same house with their babies. One night, one of the women's son died because she laid on her baby and then she got up in the middle of the night and took the baby of the other woman to her side and placed the dead baby to other woman's side while she was asleep. The next morning, when the woman got up to nurse her son, the baby was dead and she recognized him closely that it was not her son. In summary these two women argued before King Solomon that one of them was the true mother of the living baby. There was a confusion going on of who was the real mother. King Solomon took a moment of silence by discerning who was telling the truth. Afterwards, he finally have sound judgment: he ordered to bring a sword to cut the living baby into two and give each woman a half. But the woman whose son is alive was filled with compassion for her son and said, "please, my king, give her living baby! And do not kill him!" But the other woman told to cut him into two. Then the king gave his ruling: the woman who has compassion for the baby is the true mother. So he gave the living baby to her.

This is the example of wisdom coming from God. The person who has pleased God gave him a sound judgment and discretion to administer justice. So as Christians, we will also have this wisdom when we do not let it out of our sight. It will bring life, and we will have our way in safety and our feet will not stumble.

Reflect

1. Are you walking in the truth?

2. Do you acquire understanding?

Remember

Never let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, it will bring out a pleasant and happy life.
