God's Presence for His People

Scripture Text: Judges 6:14‭-‬16

And the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” And the Lord said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”

Judges 6:14‭-‬16

Our God, He is Yahweh, Creator, King of all kings, Lord of all lords, the loving and the merciful Father and Savior. Because of His grace, the Lord anointed Gideon as one of the major judges in Israel. He commissioned him to deliver His people from the hand of Midian.

The Midianites and Amalekites and their other allies were called "locusts" because of the huge number of armies. Their strategy was to destroy all the planted crops of the Israelites.

When the Lord commanded Gideon, he told the Lord that their clan was the weakest in Manasseh and he was the least in their family or maybe he was the youngest in his father's house. However the Lord gave him the assurance: And the Lord said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.” (v. 16). What a powerful promise and assurance from God.

This promise of presence from God had been given also to Moses, Joshua, and Jeremiah (Ex. 3:12; Jos. 1:5, 9; Jer.1:6), putting Gideon in the same lineage of leaders, with the same guarantee of success.

Therefore, God's presence is very important for us as His people to do the task given by God just to fulfill His promise and covenant. In Matthew 28:19-20, the Lord Jesus Christ commissioned His disciples to all nations to share and proclaim the gospel. And He assured His presence to them: And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20b).

Reflect

1. Do you feel the Lord's presence in your life through the Holy Spirit?

2. Do you perfectly do the task given to you by God through the church?

Remember

Apostle Paul reminded us that apart from God's presence, there is a terrible judgement;

They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

God chose you, and we keep praying that God will make you worthy of being his people. We pray for God's power to help you do all the good things you hope to do and your faith makes you want to do (2 Thessalonians 1:11).

Pray

Holy God, our Father, thank You for the guarantee of success in everything we do by Your presence alone. No one in this entire universe would have that kind of power, sovereignty and grandeur. Being Your people, we are overly feeling blessed for we know you have already chosen us even before the world's inception. Make us worthy of this choice, make us want to do, what we ought to do for your kingdom. In Jesus, Your Son's name. Amen!
