God's Great Provision Through Christ

Scripture Text: Joshua 5:11-12

And the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Joshua 5:11-12

Generally, God provides physical food to all people, but the Lord gives special favor to those whom He loves. Just imagine for forty years of journey in the wilderness, God spared the lives of Israel's young generation to fulfill His covenant. He provided them pillar of clouds as their protection from severe heat during day time, and a pillar of fire as their protection and light during night time.

Then, He provided them with unlimited "manna", special food for His people. It was about the size of a small seed and it appeared on the ground during the night except on the Sabbath. It was gathered early in the morning, ground up and then baked or boiled. He provided also water and meat.

Finally, God gave the land with abundant food produced to Abraham's descendants to fulfill His covenant with them. The manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. There was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year (v. 12).

Truly, our Lord Jesus Christ is the Great Provider at all times and He is the source of everything forever! Many people in Jesus' time were sick, blinded, and hungered physically and spiritually, but because of His compassion with the crowds who followed Him, immediately He provided food and fed the crowds of about 5,000 men (Matthew 14:13-21) and fed another 4,000 men (Matthew 15:32-38) excluding women and kids in count. What an amazing provision that Jesus did for the people!

But the most important provision that God desires for all people through Christ Jesus is His Word as spiritual food. This kind of food will never cease until eternity. Today's modern time, people really need God's Word through His church. People really need Jesus Christ; without Him, all things on earth and even our lives are useless.

Reflect

1. What is the provision do you desire most from God? Is it material, physical, financial, emotional, mental, psychological, or spiritual provision?

2. How do you handle such provision?

3. Do you share God's provision with others?

Remember

Eternal salvation is the great provision that God has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. He is everything for us! Nothing more!
