Ceaseless Delight in God’s Indescribable Love (Part 2)

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:13-14

My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh

that lies between my breasts.

My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms

in the vineyards of Engedi.

Song of Solomon 1:13-14

Part of the battle that we have in our life in Christ, is to believe that God loves us immeasurably and infinitely. This battle occurs in different situations, but mostly when we are having a hard time in our walk with Christ. This reality has many times snatched the delight that we ought to have with our eternal and present relationship with Christ! The love of God in Christ, is a paradox that while it was greatly manifested or shown when He gave us His only begotten Son, or when while we are still sinners, Christ died for us, still, His love for us remains to be indescribable and far beyond what our hearts and minds can comprehend. With all that has been said throughout the scripture about God’s love, what’s also clear and we should keep on remembering is that God’s love is only possible and made sure because of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Yes, His love is the source of our ceaseless delight, but He himself is our unending felicity!

When one is enjoying presently the eternal extravagant love of God in Christ, that person has already begun beholding the unutterable preciousness of Christ in his life. As the poem continues with the words of the maiden, “My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh that lies between my breasts. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms in the vineyard of Engedi” (v.13-14). A bundle of myrrh, and a cluster of henna blossoms, are intended to convey the same thing: namely, the infinite riches of the Person and work of Jesus; and that everything in him is abundant and as the richest clusters. The preciousness of the both of these shares the idea of loveliness, pleasantness, and sweetness, only found in their rareness and expensiveness. With this sense of preciousness comes the consciousness of possession—"my beloved" is the expression, "my beloved" is the acclamation. Dear saint, we must be aware not just of the richness of the loveliness of Christ in our lives, but we must be wide awake with this reality that He is ours and He is for us forever!

The heaven’s delight is the One that we have forever! He has said that “I have loved you with an everlasting love”, let it soak your hearts until it sings for joy! Let it satisfy your wandering hearts, and may it seal it for His presence forever. Dear saint, may Christ become our felicity, happiness, consolation—everything! And may it be the source of our ceaseless delight, that we have the most precious—our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ!

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! We love because he first loved us.

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him – the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. How much awareness do you have in Christ’s preciousness in your life?

2. Do you seek to have joy in the richness of Christ’s love for you?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

It is our greatest foolishness when we deliberately or ignorantly not live with a habitual communion with Christ.

Pray

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Your dear Son, to confidently ask of You what we truly need, and that is a deep and intimate beholding of the preciousness of our Christ, that we may enjoy this ceaseless delight that You have stored for us in Your very Son, our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Please fix our eyes to Him, for it is where they truly belong. Coming along with it all of our affections, for it is where they truly are intended. May You find our hearts in total awe of the wonders and beauties of Your dear Son. This we pray in His Name. Amen.
