Ceaseless Delight in God's Indescribable Love

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:12

While the king is on his couch, my perfume releases its fragrance.

Song of Solomon 1:12

With what has been said through the Scriptures about God’s love for us, it still remains indescribable and far beyond what our minds and hearts can comprehend. If we will describe His everlasting love for us, then our hearts will be that tiny nimble, and His heart, care, affection or love will be that infinite vast of oceans. When we truly behold the love of God for us, it is the path for all godliness that we truly need in our life here on earth. That is why we really must keep on beholding intimately the blessedness that we have in our Lord Jesus Christ! Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God!

With His love being told over and over to us, we must also keep in mind that part of it is the unchanging reality that even though He is there in His throne in heaven, in total control of everything in creation, we always have His attention over us. As the poem continues to describe, this time with the words of the maiden, “While the king is on his couch, my perfume releases its fragrance” (v.12). This shows that in the sight of Christ, believers are the excellence of the earth! Every product of His grace bestowed upon us brings forth delight in His sight.

Think of this dear saint, that the One who upholds the universe by the power of His word, is acutely aware with every detail about you. He sees it from above! Remember that Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Also remember that for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words! In fact, even the hairs of your head are all numbered – He knows it! He knows the depths of your heart better than you know it. He knows your every fear, your very need, what’s best for you, what’s worst for you, what will put you to danger, every part of your life, He knows it intimately! And in His steadfast love, He will work everything for your good! For all things work together for good for those who love God and called according to His purpose!

Isn’t it leading us to delight in His love unceasingly? To have an uninterrupted joy with our relationship with our Lover-Redeemer? Knowing that part of our unchanging reality is that we have the attention of the God of the Universe as our Lover-Redeemer, who delights so much in us? This is such an indescribable love – a source of unending delight! That is why it is true that His steadfast love is better than life itself!

We must therefore keep on knowing this everlasting love that has been fixed upon us! For thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that He understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want to know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him – the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. Does it give you delight in knowing that the God of the universe has fixed His attention towards you?

2. Does it give you unending delight to know that the Lord will not stop taking care of you?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

God’s thoughts of you are vast and great, let not your thoughts for Him be few and little in return.

Pray

Our Heavenly Father, we come to You in prayer in the Name of Your dear Son, to praise and thank You for loving us in a way that we can never comprehend nor imagine. It is such a blessing for us to be the recipient of this magnificent love, greatly showed in the person and work of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. We ask, O Lord, that You seal and fix our hearts toward Him, that we might experience this unending delight in His indescribable love towards us, that we may find our strength, solace, and satisfaction in it. Make us see that He is all that we have and all that we truly need. This we pray, in His Name, Amen.
