Captivated by Christ’s Unsearchable, Gladdening Love

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:2

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine;

Song of Solomon 1:2

Nothing is more consoling and fulfilling than to know personally and intimately the greatness of God’s love for us. We know that it is our blessedness to be loved by Him, for He has loved us with an everlasting love. In this way, we know that we are being peculiarly cherished by God as how a man should cherish his wife. Our fragility is well-guarded and protected by our Lover-Redeemer with great tenderness from His very heart. In fact, nothing can separate us from the love of Christ! Isn’t it amazing to know that He loves us dearly? Even though it is far beyond than what we can ever imagine, this deep and vast love of Christ for us [the bride of Christ] is being poured out, manifested and displayed in many ways that we are not even aware of in this life. Things in the very first place that we don’t deserve at all, things that we don’t even know that it is what we truly need, and things that we are ignorant that it is our blessing that we have received it from the Lover of our soul. Indeed, everything in our lives is a form of Christ’s mercy, kindness, grace or favor, and love for us!

That is why it must be our greatest goal and prize to aim that we may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length, height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God – which is the sum of all! This is perfection far beyond a bare freedom from sin! To be captivated by Christ’s unsearchable gladdening love is the beginning and continuation of the blessed life, it is about discovering the glory of true and infinite life (being the beloved).

It is the real awakening where we begin pleading “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! (v.2).” It is an intense desire for the love of your [her] life, that if we are to tell it in another manner, it may sound like: I [she] must have Christ, or else I [she] will die! This is what it means to understand the unsearchable, gladdening love of Christ; to be fully inclined in His comely love and to find it as the greatest delight. For we know that His steadfast love is better than life itself!

This is the reality of those who are captivated by Christ’s unsearchable gladdening love their constant longing is not to be away or far from Him. That they will always complain if Christ is not around. That if they are not seeing any form of His light, love, wisdom, holiness, power, and glory, it will be their greatest failure. That if they don’t have Christ, their Lover-Redeemer, it will be miserable and such loneliness for them.

You must know personally that His love endures forever! That He will quiet you by His love! That this is the kind of love that can give us life! This is presently gladdening, it will never change, and never will be capable of change. It has no beginning nor end! For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but His steadfast love shall not depart from us, and His covenant of peace shall not be removed, says Him who has compassion on us.

What can be more desirable than this kind of love? It is unsearchable, and is gladdening! For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great His steadfast love toward those who fear Him.

Hear this then, dear saintLet not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

Live in the love of God in Christ! Aim to dwell in it all the days of your life! See Him in everything that you are doing. Search for His presence day and night and He will direct you to His paths. For all the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness. Seek Him and be captivated by this unsearchable gladdening love of Christ, for you.

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

  1. When was the last time you have longed to know more personally and intimately the greatness of Christ’s love for you?

  2. Is the unsearchable, gladdening love of Christ leading you closer to His heart?

  3. Do you desire to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

The real lovers of Christ are those who are fulfilled and satisfied in Him and His will alone. To love Him is always the result. For we are learning to love Him more because He has loved us first.

Pray

Father, we come to you in prayer and in the name of your Son, to once again ask of the greatest gift that we could ever ask, and that is to behold your Son more and more, and His everlasting love for us. Please set our affections to where it really belongsto your Son. Incline our hearts and make us hope in Him more and more, as how the Old Testament saints longed and hoped for His arrival, how the New Testament saints celebrates His indwelling, and how they again long for the eternal dwelling of your Sonthe most lovely being ever known. This we pray in His name, Amen.
